163名叙利亚难民昨天坐政府军机抵达多伦多，总理杜鲁多、联邦移民、难民和公民部部长麦家廉、卫生部部长Jane Philpott、国防部部长Harjit Sajjan、安省省长韦恩、多伦多市市长庄德利、密西沙加市市长Bonnie Crombie、反对党的移民事务评论员以及民众在皮尔逊国际机场迎接他们。

“我们遭受了很多痛苦，” 和妻子以及16个月大的女儿一起抵达多伦多的Kevork Jamkossian说：“现在，我觉得我们好像逃离了地狱，来到了天堂。”

去年和妻子、儿子从叙利亚逃到黎巴嫩的Shadr Mardelli昨天对加新社表示：“我期待着一个安全、美好和新的未来。”
杜鲁多在叙利亚难民抵达前的讲话中说﹕「他们踏出飞机时是难民﹐但他们走出这个航站楼时﹐是加拿大永久居民﹐他们有社会保险号码、有健康卡﹐有机会成为完全的加拿大人。」
杜鲁多还表示：“我们不仅向一飞机的新加拿大人表明什么是加拿大，我们还要向世界显示我们如何打开心房欢迎逃离极端困境的人们。“
“我们在我们的国家可以这么做，是因为我们定义加拿大，不是根据人的肤色、语言、宗教或其它背景，而是基于我们共同的价值观、抱负、希望和梦想——不仅是加拿大人共同拥有的也是全世界人共同拥有的。”他最后在讲话中表示。
自由党11月4日开始执政后﹐已有687名叙利亚难民来到加拿大。1,545 名难民已获得来加拿大的签证，准备来加拿大。自由党政府计划在2月底前接收25000名叙利亚难民。
总理杜鲁多今天就昨晚抵达的叙利亚难民发表的声明：
“Today, we welcome many Syrian refugees who were forced to flee their homeland because of war and conflict. Canada is doing the right thing by providing refuge for those so desperately seeking safety.
“This is a significant step in fulfilling our plan to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada in the coming months. It also demonstrates our commitment to refugee resettlement, which is part of Canada’s proud humanitarian tradition.
“I know that, even for those facing extreme hardship, tragedy, and war in their country, leaving home is very difficult. The transition to a new life in a new country can be a very daunting process.
“Let me reassure those coming to our country that our communities and all orders of government will work closely, together, to make it easier for you to adjust to these changes and become full participants in Canadian society. While it might be much colder outside than back home, I am sure that you will find warm welcomes from your new neighbours.
“In the years to come, Canadians will look back with enormous pride on the contributions made by Syrian refugees and how they have made our country even better.”

"First of all, thank you for being here. And thank you for the gorgeous smiles I see. This is a wonderful night where we get to show not just a planeload of new Canadians what Canada is all about, we get to show the world how to open our hearts and welcome in people who are fleeing extraordinarily difficult situations.
"But it's not just about receiving them tonight. It's about the hard work we're all going to do in the coming weeks, months and indeed years to ensure that everyone who passes through here tonight and in the weeks and months to come are able to build a life for themselves, for their family and also contribute fully to the continued growth of this extraordinary country."

"Tonight they step off the plane as refugees. But they walk out of this terminal as permanent residents of Canada, with social insurance numbers, with health cards, and with an opportunity to become full Canadians.
"This is something that we are able to do in this country because we define a Canadian not by a skin colour or a language or a religion or a background. But by a shared set of values, aspirations, hopes and dreams that not just Canadians but people around the world share. And how you will receive these people tonight will be something they will remember for the rest of their lives, but also I know something that you will remember for the rest of your lives. And I thank you deeply for being a part of this because this matters, tonight matters, not just for Canada but for the world.
