Chan Hon Goh
In her illustrious 20 year stage career, Chan Hon Goh has performed around the world. She personifies the essence of each role, from the most demanding classical repertoires to newly commissioned ballets especially created on her. Recognition of her talents and artistic achievements began early in her career when Ms. Goh became the first Canadian to receive the Silver Medal at the Genèe International Ballet Competition in London, England and a prize at the illustrious Prix de Lausanne. In 2005, she received the New Pioneers Arts Award for her contributions to dance in Canada.
Dance Magazine raves: "Ballerina Chan Hon Goh is one of The National Ballet of Canada's most exquisite principal dancers. A gifted classicist, she has also won praise for the strength of her dramatic characterizations…As a guest artist, she has appeared all over the world. For most ballerinas, such a glittering career would be enough of a workload. Goh, however, is also an author, businesswoman, and impresario - and she still finds time to be, by her own admission, an activist role model for immigrant women."
As of September of 2010, Ms. Goh accepted an invitation to become the Director of the Goh Ballet Academy and Youth Company Canada. While in Vancouver, she also took on the role of Executive Producer to Goh Ballet’s critically acclaimed production of The Nutcracker; a large scale, critically acclaimed production which provides mentorship opportunities to hundreds of aspiring dancers each year since its premiere.
Ms. Goh is a founding member of Vancouver’s Arts and Culture Policy Council, which assist in giving the city a voice for the creative community. Her accomplishments, with irrepressible devotion to the enhancement of the cultural life of Canada, have garnered several prestigious awards including:
- YWCA Women of Distinction Award (2013)
- Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2013)
- FMA Vancouver Art Achievement Award (2010)
- National Association of Asian American Professionals 100 Award (NAAAP) (2010)
- Mandarin Profile Female Entrepreneur Award (2010 and 2007)
- New Pioneers Arts Award (2005)
