City of Toronto hosts city-wide walking challenge to support TransformTO Climate Action Strategy
On May 6, the City of Toronto will kick off a city-wide walking challenge to encourage residents to commute more actively and support a greener, healthier Toronto.
The Take Steps to TransformTO challenge, which runs from May 6 to 20, encourages Toronto residents to walk more often and keep track of their progress on the Carrot Rewards app, which can be downloaded for free on a mobile phone. An online leaderboard will track participation and encourage friendly competition between Toronto's 25 wards.
The ward with the highest total step goals met by participants will win a street party, hosted by Live Green Toronto. Participants in the winning ward will earn double points on the app, which they can redeem towards a rewards program of their choice. All residents can earn Carrot Rewards points by participating in interactive quizzes on the app.
To help the City meet its target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, 75 per cent of all trips in Toronto under 5 km must be walked or cycled by then. This and other goals are part of the City's TransformTO Climate Action Strategy.
