“This evening, Canadians of Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean heritage will come together to celebrate the beginning of the Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year, Seollal to Koreans, and Tết to the Vietnamese.
“The Lunar New Year is a time of celebration and looking forward to a promising new year. This special time of the year often begins on the evening preceding the New Year with an annual feast with family and friends.
“Each year is devoted to a specific animal and this year, 2017, we enter the Year of the Rooster. The Rooster represents quick wit, generosity and passion, and those born under this sign are said to be ardent, highly-motivated, and conscientious in the performance of their duties.
“I encourage all Canadians to learn more about this important holiday and join the many festivities and celebrations planned in their communities this evening and throughout the month.
“On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I offer my best wishes to all those celebrating the Lunar New Year! I hope the Year of the Rooster will be filled with peace and prosperity for all.” |
