Canada Day celebrations taking place across the City of Toronto
The City of Toronto encourages residents and visitors to enjoy Canada Day and celebrate Canada's 149th birthday in Toronto on Friday, July 1. City-organized and community events will be held across Toronto for residents of all ages.
Members of the public are not allowed to light fireworks or consume alcohol in City of Toronto parks. More information is available at http://www.toronto.ca/parks.
Canada Day celebrations at Mel Lastman Square
The City of Toronto will be celebrating Canada Day at Mel Lastman Square (5100 Yonge St.), presented by Tim Hortons with support from the Government of Canada, on Friday, July 1, from 5 to 10:30 p.m. From 5 to 8 p.m. there will be pop-up performances by Turbo Street Funk, Illuminair Entertainment and Lisa Odjig, as well as free face painting. The Soul Motivators, a nine-piece deep funk band, perform at 8:15 p.m., followed by Juno nominated hip-hop artist Emmanual Jal at 9:15 p.m. The Canada Day celebration at Mel Lastman Square concludes with fireworks at 10:15 p.m.
North
The Old Style Community Picnic will be held at the Broadlands Community Centre (19 Castlegrove Blvd.) and Park, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Activities include face-painting, games, clown performers and local entertainers.
East
Scarborough’s annual Canada Day celebration in Thomson Park (1005 Brimley Rd.) will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will include a free pancake breakfast, buskers, bouncy inflatables, Reptilia Animal display, entertainment and a craft show and sale. The annual Canada Day parade will begin at 4 p.m. west of the Scarborough Civic Centre on Brimley Road, ending at Lawrence Avenue East at about 5:30 p.m. More information is available by calling 416-396-4376.
A free fireworks display at Milliken District Park (5555 Steeles Ave. W.) will begin at dusk. More information is available by calling 416-396-4376.
South and central
East York’s annual Canada Day parade, featuring marching bands, will begin at Dieppe Park at 10 a.m., moving east to Stan Wadlow Park (8888 Cosburn Ave.). The celebration will continue at Stan Wadlow Park from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and include live entertainment, information tables and vendors. Visitors to Stan Wadlow Park's free Canada Day festivities can visit the Todmorden Mills table and learn more about the museum's connections to the history of East York (note: the Todmorden Mills museum will be closed on Canada Day). The Kiwanis pool will be open from noon to 7 p.m. A fireworks display will start at 10:15 p.m. and the park will close at 11 p.m.
The annual Canada Day fireworks display at Ashbridges Bay, sponsored by Tim Hortons, will begin at 10 p.m. Residents who are planning to attend are encouraged to leave vehicles at home and use public transit. (Note: media availability regarding the Ashbridges Bay fireworks display will be held on Friday, July 1 at 5 p.m. at the Woodbine Bathing Station (Lake Shore Boulevard East and Woodbine Avenue.)
West
The annual Toronto Ribfest will be held at Centennial Park (256 Centennial Park Rd.) from June 30 to July 3, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, with professional ribbers, live music and midway rides. On Canada Day there will be a fireworks display sponsored by Tim Hortons at 10 p.m. More information is available at http://www.torontoribfest.com.
Canada Day Celebrations at Weston Lions Park (2125 Lawrence Ave. W.) will run from 5 to 10:30 p.m., with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Festivities include live entertainment, food and activities for children. The annual Canada Day event at Amesbury Park (151 Culford Rd.) will start at 11 a.m. Activities include a barbecue, live entertainment, marketplace, strongman competition and activities for children, plus fireworks at 10 p.m. More information is available at http://www.amesburycanadaday.ca.
Swimming pools, parks and community centres
City of Toronto parks, beaches, outdoor swimming pools, wading pools and splash pads are open on Canada Day. Indoor pools and community centres will be closed. Golf

Toronto's historic sites

Fort York National Historic Site (250 Fort York Blvd.)
The Fort's Summer Guard kick off the season performing musket and artillery drills as well as fife and drum music. Canada Day will feature Toronto artist Bruno Billio's Tri-Mirror Sculpture Field – a playful maze of mirrors outdoors on the grounds of the Fort. This Celebrate Canada event is funded in part by the Government of Canada.
Mackenzie House (82 Bond St.)
Visitors can learn more about the role of the media in Confederation, and can use the museum's 1845 press to print a maple leaf on a postcard, poster or fabric patch.
Scarborough Museum (1007 Brimley Rd.)
Visitors can try croquet, sample historic foods and participate in karaoke singing as well as watch the annual pie-eating contest. This Celebrate Canada event is funded in part by the Government of Canada and sponsored by Tim Hortons.
Spadina Museum (285 Spadina Rd.)
The museum will have afternoon tours themed on the Austin family, who originally made Spadina Museum their home.
