Harbourfront Centre is delighted to unveil its exciting lineup for the 17th edition of Summer Music in the Garden, presented by TD Bank Group. This series features 19 free concerts of Western and non-Western classical music and much more from June 30–September 18, most Thursday at 7pm and Sundays at 4pm.
The 2016 edition of Summer Music in the Garden showcases 67 performers, including 2016 Juno nomineesElinor Frey, Jayme Stone and the Cecilia String Quartet. Nine ensembles make their Summer Music in the Garden debut in a lineup that includes artists from the UK, Sweden, Montreal and the USA.
“Love is in the air this season, whether it’s medieval love songs, a new string quartet by Kati Agócs inspired by Tantra, Persian music inspired by mystical Sufi poetry and dance, or Jayme Stone’s ongoing love affair with folk music collected by the legendary Alan Lomax,” says Tamara Bernstein, Artistic Director of Summer Music in the Garden.
Summer Music in the Garden Highlights:
July 14 – Pallade Musica and guest soprano Andréanne Brisson-Paquin perform Baroque music about strong female characters.
July 28 – Tamar Ilana and her trans-Mediterranean ensemble Ventanas embrace varied instrumental and melodic traditions of North Africa, the Balkans, Turkey and Spain.
August 4 - Calum Graham, named one of the top 30 guitarists in the world under the age of 30, returns to the garden stage.
August 18 – Nagata Shachu, Japanese drumming ensemble, ensemble returns with joyous rhythms and soaring melodies.
August 25 – An exuberant yet intimate program of Italian music from the early Baroque performed by prize-winning Quebec artists Vincent Lauzer (recorder) and Mark Edwards (harpsichord).
