YouthTO launched today as web resource
The City of Toronto's new Youth Portal – YouthTO – was officially launched today by Mayor John Tory and Councillor Joe Cressy (Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina), Toronto's Youth Equity Advocate.
YouthTO at http://www.toronto.ca/youth provides one-stop access to information about services, health resources, employment, volunteer, recreation and cultural opportunities for youth. A feature of YouthTO is an interactive map that will help youth – Toronto young people in their teens and twenties – locate programs and services within communities.
“Connecting young people to jobs and opportunity is a priority for me as Mayor, and for the City. This new website will provide greater access and information about the many programs available to help our city’s youth,” said Mayor John Tory. “By pulling all this information together in one easy-to-use portal, I’m confident we will help our young people leverage existing city services, find opportunities and play a greater role in decision-making in our city."
To complement YouthTO, new data is available on the Wellbeing Toronto web page at http://www.toronto.ca/wellbeing, enabling users to map locations of programs and services for youth across 24 categories alongside demographic and economic indicators for Toronto's neighbourhoods.
"The YouthTO map and the Wellbeing Toronto indicators will provide partners in the youth-service sector with a new information resource to support collaborative local planning for youth services," said Councillor Cressy. "Gaps and overlaps in service requirements and delivery will be much easier to identify because of these tools."
Initiated as part of the Toronto Youth Equity Strategy and funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, YouthTO was developed in consultation with youth and with content from City divisions and Findhelp/211.
