约克区议会支持卫生部门执行《学生接受预防针法》,除非有医疗、良心和宗教的原因,17岁或17岁以下学生需要注射预防针。
York Regional Council today supported York Region Public Health’s enforcement requirements under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, helping to ensure students and communities are protected from harmful, vaccine-preventable diseases.
Under the Act, all children up to age 17 who attend school are legally required to be immunized against certain preventable diseases, unless a valid exemption due to medical, conscience or religious reasons is provided.
“Our number one priority is the safety of all of the residents of York Region,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “To minimize the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases members of Council encourage everyone to get their required shots and update their immunization records.”
Parents and guardians of school-aged children are responsible for providing up-to-date immunization information to York Region Public Health. Under the Act, students whose immunizations records are not up to date may be suspended.
Working with York Region’s Catholic, Public and French School Boards, Public Health will be sending letters to parents and guardians of students aged seven and 17, reminding them of the requirements to update vaccination records and indicating which vaccination information is missing.
“York Region Public Health collects and reviews the immunization records of all students in the Region,” said Town of Newmarket Regional Councilor John Taylor, Chair of Community and Health Services. “To help families ensure their children receive the necessary immunizations, York Region hosts free community vaccination clinics in Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket and Keswick.”

“Immunization is one of the safest ways to promote health and prevent illnesses related to vaccine-preventable diseases,” said Dr. Karim Kurji, York Region’s Medical Officer of Health. “They protect everyone, including those who may not be able to receive certain vaccines and those with weaker immune systems.”
Parents and guardians can report immunization information online ateimmunization.york.ca, by faxing documents to 1-866-258-2026 or by calling 1-877-464-9675 ext. 73456.
