Good afternoon, my name is Shahana and I will be here speaking a little bit about the after school program that has been offered to me at Armadale C.C through 360 kids. 360 kids is a new program that has launched this month that focuses on training for employment skills for full time high school students, aged 15-18. They work alongside students providing sessions to focus on core skills needed to find employment like effective resume writing, interview skills among other things like training in WHMIS and, food and safety.
This program is held by staff who train teenagers for qualifications to make them more eligible to obtain jobs.
While being apart of 360 kids for roughly a month, I have obtained several new qualifications that I can use later on after the program is done. So far I have been trained in WHMIS, food and safety certifications, among other new qualifications that are to be offered in the near future. Although I was in fact employed prior to being introduced to this youth program, I feel extremely blessed to be able to participate in this opportunity because it has helped me meet new people, learn valuable skills and has allowed me to enjoy new experiences in a professional work environment.
Recently, I was given the incredible opportunity to work at Armadale Community Centre. At this position, I have been assisting young children to succeed in a variety of recreational programs. Specifically, I am working alongside instructors who teach programs, such as: Kids in the Kitchen where children create small snacks with supervision , teaching them safety in the kitchen and educating them on how to make simple snacks at home. Another program I feel privileged to be a part of is called Energy Burner, which allows small children to interact with each other by playing active games; involving a lot of running and sports, like basketball. Among many other programs and activities Armadale Community Centre offers, they also have a science program which I also assist in where kids can create cool science experiments and dive into a world of science.
Participation in the programs that I work in has provided me an opportunity to work on several skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork. This is because you work with many different types of people and age groups, and working alongside them has allowed me grow my skills and better myself to become a better role model.
I hope that you all have more of an insight about 360 Kids and the programs offered at Armadale Community Centre. Thank you and I hope you all have a great day.
